5 Simple Comedy Solutions for Everyday Life in Miami

Everyday life in Miami makes you a local. Sometimes we can get so caught up with it, that you may not even realize how isolated being a Miamian can be. Comedy will solve some of the relatable frustrations to our lifestyles, here’s how:

1. Traffic

There are three major commute events that happen throughout the day. First, is the early morning rush hour. Being stuck in traffic is one of the reasons for “Miami Time”. If you ever deliver a baby during these hours, by the time you get to the hospital it may just be a toddler.

Second, is the afternoon rush hour. Taking a ride back home and spotting a dozen construction workers measuring a stick on the floor will make you want to call your wife/husband and tell them you love them because you may not see them for a while. But while a construction worker peers into those tripod scopes, one can’t help but think that they may be chuckling on the inside while zooming in on all the upset faces in traffic.

Lastly, the late night road closings, where they close down all the main streets for – you guessed it – more construction. Many locals will tell you that the expressways in Miami may have never been completed since its colonization. If Back to the Future was set in Miami all three parts will still have the I-95 under construction.

Solution: Having a good laugh is a great way to de-stress.

2. Diversity

Miami is full of identities, but this melting pot doesn’t mix very well. Our city is complex and segregated. A Tour Bus ride should have a 12 hour series on the History Channel or be narrated in Ken Burns DVDs.

This one may be hard to describe, but from experience, here are a few things you may notice that points out the cultural and income gaps:

  • Your ability to Spanglish may be the difference between a $7 espresso or a $1.25 coladita.
  • Can’t dance Salsa? You miss out on 40%+ of available dating options.
  • If you listen closely in the middle of the night, you can hear a souped up Honda drag racing a Lamborghini.

Solution: Live comedy brings people together to share a laugh.

3. Nightlife

This city can party. Almost every day of the week has its own reason to go out (Taco Tuesdays, Ladies Nights, Happy Hours etc.). Even if you aren’t a fan of cheap thrills, you can enjoy the Artwalk events by the Wynwood Walls; but it will most likely lead to partying. Trivia nights will lead to partying, hell there’s even bar events that give you a canvas and some brushes to let you black out while painting. So when you wake up the next morning and ask yourself: “What was I thinking?!” You can look at your work of art and get an idea.

Every once in a while we get the idea to go out and have some fun without the hangover…

Solution: Comedy shows are some of the most original ways to enjoy a night out.

4. Weather

Lets face it, the weather in Miami will make a meteorologist look like Nostradamus if he got it right. Within the hour you can have cloudy skies, scattered showers, and the most gorgeous beach weather imaginable. As a tour guide, you will feel a little bit of guilt calling Florida the Sunshine State if your customers want to visit Miami.

There’s also an amazing phenomenon that occurs: all blue skies and a bright sun – but it is pouring rain.

Solution: Staying indoors – at a comedy venue.

5. Date Nights

You will go on dates and cringe if it becomes an interview process. You can chat up a storm and only get a peak of the personality iceberg. But here is a tip: one of the best judgements of character is what a person laughs at. So why keep the plates spinning? Get right to the source.

Getting to know someone you are attracted to can be contrived. Trust us, comedy shows will break the ice. People will always remember how you made them feel. If you are having fun, they will affiliate all that fun to spending time with you!

Solution: Let a comedian do all the work and provide the laughs on your date.
