5 Question interview with Joe Matarese

1) Joe, you traveled to Miami before, what do you think about our city? Is it a rare place to perform?

I love Miami! I tend to over eat every time I come since the owner of the club loves to take me to all the best cuban restaurants. I’m thinking about eating there already! It’s truly a great food city!

2) As a regular working comedian from NYC, do you think there is a special kind of stage presence to the Miami audience? What can we expect?

Hmmmm let me think about that question. Don’t make fun of a Latin guys girlfriend… I did that a few years ago in Miami and he had no sense of humor. I actually was kind of scared, I saw Scarface.

3) what do you mostly base your comedy on?

My comedy is based on my life. I’m an SSRI and Adderall taking 48 year old dad, with 2 kids 8 and 4 years old, with a wife who’s a psychologist. Plus I’m also 100 percent Italian. Just those subjects is about 75mins of material for me. Gotta cut it down to 60mins!

4) what is your favorite joke and from whom? Why do you find it funny?

A lot of my favorite Jokes are from Brian Regan. My latest favorite joke of his is him talking about eating fig newtons by the sleeve. He makes fun of the serving size being 2 cookies… who eats 2 cookies. Look it up on youtube its hilarious! Why do I find it funny… Because its him doing it. He has a style that he can make almost anything funny. That mixed with great writing = hilarious.

5) What advice do you have for people currently in a relationship who are going to your show this weekend?

My act is great for people in relationships. I do a ton of relationship material. You’ll feel great when you leave too because I’m so brutally honest about my own life that yours will seem perfect.
